sonasKUNE (Esperanto for “sounding together”), founded in 2017, is a in Amsterdam- and Luxembourg-based chamber music ensemble that aims to put the spirit of the constructed language Esperanto into musical practice: that is to create a common language, which is accessible to everyone. For us, music can have the same purpose which becomes obvious through the international setting of our group.
Together with our audiences, we want to explore old and new, known and unknown music from a big diversity of styles. Through changing settings within the ensemble we are able to play uncommon repertory in uncommon instrumentation that is not heard often. Whatever we play, however, it is essential to us to integrate our listeners into the experience of music-listening and to share a part of our musical understanding and knowledge with them. This will allow people with different backgrounds and listening-experiences to hear music differently and to understand the enigmatic.
Our starting project was the performance of Igor Stravinsky’s music theater “Histoire du Soldat”. In our second project “koncerto|UNU” in April 2017 we presented a broad view on music of the 20th century, from french Impressionism to the abstract avant-garde music of our time. In order to help the audience and to guide them through the listening experience we introduced each piece in a understandable way that was supported by small musical fragments.
